Americans for Prosperity Ohio: ObamaCare Medicaid Expansion Would Strain Ohio Resources Too

October 07, 2013

COLUMBUS – Americans for Prosperity Ohio is reacting to today’s Bloomberg piece attesting that ObamaCare is Straining Clinics with Medicaid Expansion.

“States that have expanded Medicaid are already experiencing the negative impacts of expansion.  Their systems are strained.  There is no reason to believe the outcome would be any different here in Ohio if we were to pursue this perilous path,” said Eli Miller, Americans for Prosperity Ohio State Director.  “We urge the legislature and the Governor to resist the lure of short-term federal funds and say no to expanding Medicaid in Ohio.”

As reported in Bloomberg, the adverse of effects of Medicaid Expansion can include doctor shortages, increased travel and wait times, decreased quality of care and physician churning.

“Even in the best case scenario, the Kaiser Family Foundation has noted that expanding Medicaid would add $4 billion to our state budget from 2013 to 2022.  While Ohio taxpayers absorb this increased cost, newly eligible Medicaid recipients will face longer wait times and lower quality care,” continued Miller.  “Medicaid is broken and bloated. Medicaid expansion is wrong for Ohio and wrong for Ohioans.”
