Americans for Prosperity-Ohio Applauds Ohio House and Senate Votes to Approve Vouchers for Low-Income Students

June 28, 2013

COLUMBUS, OH – Americans for Prosperity-Ohio is applauding the Ohio House and Senate for their approval of a school voucher program.  The program, which was included in the state budget, will be available to low-income kindergartners around the state this fall.

“This is a great victory for families across Ohio.  We applaud the members of the legislature and Governor Kasich for their work to expand school choice in Ohio,” said Eli Miller, State Director of Americans for Prosperity-Ohio.

Once signed into law by the Governor, the measure will provide private school choice to kindergartners whose family income does not exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty line, or $46,100 for a family of four. The program will add one grade level of eligibility each year over the next 12 years.

“School choice is about ensuring that parents get to decide how to educate their children,” continued Miller.  “This program will give more Ohio families that much-needed opportunity and empower parents to make the best decisions for their children.”
