Americans for Prosperity Doubles Down on Worker Freedom, Urges Legislature to Pass Right to Work

June 19, 2013

Columbus, OH – Americans for Prosperity – Ohio, the Buckeye state’s leading proponent of worker freedom and free market employment policy, today re-affirmed its support for Right to Work legislation and worker freedom in advance of National Employee Freedom Week.

“In addition to increasing worker freedom, Right to Work is a major boon to economic competitiveness,” explained Eli Miller, state director of Americans for Prosperity – Ohio. “The longer we wait, the more economic opportunity we risk losing to those states that allow workers the freedom to choose whether or not to join a union or pay union dues.”

Representative Kristina Roegner (R-37), who has introduced legislation to prevent private-industry labor unions from taking dues as a condition of employment, recently authored an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal citing the economic benefits reaped by Right-to-Work states, among which are Ohio neighbors, Indiana and Michigan.

“It’s time for Ohio to follow the example of our neighbors in Indiana and Michigan and treat our workers with the respect they deserve by passing Right to Work,” added Miller.  “With National Employee Freedom Week beginning on Sunday, the time is right for the state of Ohio to become the 25th right to work state in the nation.  We urge the legislature to pass Right to Work.”
