New Americans for Prosperity Radio Ad: No Hollywood Handouts

June 24, 2014

Ads playing in Asheville, Greensboro, and Raleigh

RALEIGH – “Here they come” is the ominous opening line in Americans for Prosperity – North Carolina’s new radio ad which started running today in Asheville, Greensboro, and Raleigh markets. In the ad, “they” refers to the Hollywood special interest groups who are poaching North Carolina’s taxpayers for tens of millions of dollars in subsidies. The ad highlights how Hollywood film-makers are subsidized by North Carolina taxpayers and urges listeners to take action at NoHollywoodHandouts.com.

“The film production subsidy is the relic of a bygone era in North Carolina politics, a time when corporate welfare and other forms of picking economic winners and losers was acceptable,” explained Donald Bryson, North Carolina Deputy State Director of Americans for Prosperity. “With the passage of the historic tax reforms in 2013, that era should be over, and our ad captures all that is wrong with this egregious form of corporate welfare. We want listeners to hear this ad and be enraged that their hard earned money is being wasted on subsidies for film production — and not for a core function of state government, such as education, public safety, or transportation.”
