NC House Budget Plan Supports School Choice
A provision in the NC House budget would open up new educational opportunities for children of low-income families.
NC House Bill 944, the Opportunity Scholarship Act (OSA), would allow $10 million of the state budget to go towards Opportunity Scholarships Grants starting in the 2013-2014 budget year and increase to $40 million in the 2014-2015 year.
OSA has bi-partisan support in the NC House and is even endorsed by the chairman of the State Board of Education.
The provision would be great news for families looking for alternative educational choices like private schools.
