Americans for Prosperity-NC urges General Assembly to “bold action” in final tax relief and reform deal
Asks for final tax plan by July 5th
RALEIGH, NC – Americans for Prosperity – North Carolina, the state’s leading advocate for economic freedom, urges both chambers of the General Assembly to agree on meaningful tax relief and reform by the end of the July 4th week.
“The State House and Senate have both debated solid tax relief and reform proposals. Americans for Prosperity supports sending the Governor the boldest tax relief and reform package possible. Conservatives know our leaders, Governor McCrory, Speaker Tillis and Senator Berger are working towards that goal. North Carolina’s current tax code ranks 44th on the Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index – 7th worst in the nation. That’s just not good enough to be competitive in these economic times,” said Dallas Woodhouse, AFP’s North Carolina State Director.
North Carolina’s low score on the Tax Foundation’s Index can be attributed to its high personal and corporate income tax rates – the highest rates in the southeast.
Woodhouse continued, “It is time to bring what has been a very constructive debate to a close and celebrate our ‘independence day’ from a punishing and complex tax code. We urge our leaders to use this holiday week to get a deal done.”
