President Offers Same Empty Promises
AFP responds to President Obama’s Press Conference
Arlington, VA- Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s foremost advocate for economic freedom, responded to President Obama’s news conference regarding the nation’s debt, deficit and the overspending of Congress with a statement from AFP President, Tim Phillips.
“The President today offered the same empty promises and failed economic policies that have put us trillions deeper in debt while failing to help Americans improve their lives — all while laughably suggesting that he has brought down spending by more than $1.4 trillion, even though none of those spending cuts have actually occurred. While Americans around the country struggle to make ends meet, the President seems determined to continue the same old Washington, D.C. wasteful overspending that inhibits job growth.
“The U.S. Treasury Department numbers show the country has recorded a deficit 45 of the 47 months President Obama has been in office. In addition, the U.S just closed the books on its fourth straight $1 trillion annual deficit. The proof is in the numbers – this president lacks any real credibility when he discusses fiscal discipline or responsible spending.”
Americans for Prosperity is advocating Congress to enact the sequester to cut government overspending this year. The President today said “We can’t finish the job of deficit reduction through spending cuts alone,” which suggests that on top of the payroll tax increase and the fiscal cliff increases, the President is still seeking tax increases.
