Obama Out Of Touch With Americans As He Demands Higher Taxes
Arlington, VA – Today, Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s foremost advocate for economic freedom, issued the following statement from AFP President Tim Phillips announcing their disapproval of the President’s plan to raise taxes again.
“Once again the President refuses to accept that the nation’s budget woes are driven by out-of-control big government spending. The nation has a real opportunity to take a small but important first step toward getting our spending problem under control. Earlier this year the President raised taxes on millions of Americans through the payroll tax and fiscal cliff deal. Now he wants even more tax hikes, and is hiding behind what he calls a balanced approach. What this really means are tax hikes that take effect immediately and spending cuts that never seem to materialize.
“The President and Congress should keep their word to the American people to cut spending. Government overspending is the biggest threat to economic prosperity that we face, and stopping it is the only way to deal with our skyrocketing national debt.”
Numerous polls including Gallup and Public Notice have shown that Americans believe that the federal government does have a spending problem. In both polls, over 70% of Americans said the federal government spends too much.
