Newsmax: High Court's Obamacare Ruling Smacks of 'Overreach'
The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision expanding gay marriage on Wednesday reflects “an overreaching by the court and Congress on a consistent basis,” Tim Phillips, president of Americans for Prosperity, tells Newsmax TV.
“We know that government that governs at the local level, at the state level as a minimum, is far better for prosperity,” Phillips tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview. “It’s far better for our country — and that’s what we continually push for.”
In two 5-to-4 decisions, the Supreme Court struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which denied benefits to same-sex married couples, and ruled that supporters of a California law enacted in 2008, called Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage, lacked standing to appeal a federal district court ruling that struck down the law.
Phillips likened Wednesday’s gay marriage rulings to the high court’s decision last year — also on a 5-to-4 vote — upholding Obamacare.
