Farm Bill Defeated! AFP Responds
Arlington, VA – Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s largest grassroots advocate for economic freedom, responded today to the defeat of the Farm Bill in the US House of Representatives.
AFP President Tim Phillips said, “Today’s defeat of the bloated Farm Bill is a victory for all Americans who oppose special interests, corporate cronyism, and an ever-expanding welfare state. We congratulate the House members who voted against this ineffective, inefficient bill for doing the right thing even when it was difficult. We hope Congress will now start over from scratch, and craft more responsible legislation that supports good policy and sustained economic growth.”
Last week, AFP launched a major grassroots effort utilizing emails, phone calls, web videos, and social media to pressure lawmakers to vote no on the bill. That effort specifically targeted 10 House Republicans and 5 Democrats.
AFP Director of Policy James Valvo said, “It is long past time to separate the farm and food components of this legislation and consider them on their own merits. Today’s defeat is a signal that the big spending alliance in Congress is breaking down and a new way of doing business is coming to Washington.”
