AMERICANS FOR PROSPERITY RESPONDS TO PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
ARLINGTON, VA – Tonight Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s largest advocate for economic freedom, issued the following statement on the first Presidential Debate:
AFP President Tim Phillips said, “Tonight, President Obama was clearly and concisely called to task for the failure of his economic policies. Governor Romney made a powerful case for repealing ObamaCare, and the President repeatedly stumbled while trying to defend his supposed signature accomplishment.
“Rather than offer new solutions, in tonight’s debate President Obama shrugged off responsibility, blamed his predecessor, and doubled down on the same policies that have hurt small businesses and left the economy languishing in the most sluggish ‘recovery’ in modern history.
“Another key moment occurred when Romney called out the President for wasting $90 billion dollars on ‘green energy’ schemes like Solyndra that had the federal government using our tax dollars to pick winners and losers based on a liberal ideology. It was telling that the President decided against defending his green energy boondoggles.
“When the debate turned to the national debt, President Obama’s comments about the need to control government spending seemed like a case of fiscal amnesia as he ignored entirely his own $1 trillion deficits during each year of his presidency.”
Americans for Prosperity has presented its own Jobs Agenda, which calls for reforms to the tax code to keep America competitive, full repeal of the costly taxes in Obama’s health care law, and an end to Washington’s wasteful spending that has driven the national debt over $16 trillion.
