AFP Urges Opposition to Wind Production Tax Credit
Congress must end corporate welfare, encourage a free market in the energy industry
Arlington, Va. — Today Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s foremost advocate for economic freedom, called on the Senate Finance Committee to oppose extending the wind production tax credit (PTC).
Senator Chuck Grassley proposed an amendment yesterday to extend the wind PTC as part of broad tax legislation being considered this week by the Finance Committee.
AFP President Tim Phillips said the following: “I strongly urge the Senate Finance Committee to vote against extending the wind production tax credit. When the federal government props up failing energy industries by giving them special handouts, Americans end up footing the bill. If Senator Grassley’s amendment passes, individuals and families will be forced to pay more in taxes and spend more on their monthly energy bills.
“Wind energy companies have been receiving special handouts from the Obama administration for years and still haven’t been successful. It’s time for Congress to put an end to this corporate welfare and encourage a free market in the energy industry that will lower costs for Americans across the country.”
