AFP Responds to President's Newport News Speech

February 26, 2013

Arlington, VA – Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the nation’s foremost advocate for economic freedom, issued the following statement in response to the President’s campaign-style speech in Newport News, VA.

AFP President Tim Phillips said, “It’s not the least bit surprising to hear President Obama refuse to support any serious effort to rein in government overspending, and instead call for more tax increases and new programs.  After four years of overspending by a trillion dollars, the very thought of making reasonable spending reductions is clearly just too painful for our President.

“These spending cuts, which are only 2 cents of every dollar, are necessary to generate economic growth and bring real prosperity to the people of Virginia and the United States. Government overspending, and the inevitable waste, inefficiency and red tape that comes with it, restricts free enterprise, crowds out private sector job creation, and slows the ability of our economy to grow and recover.”
