AFP President Tim Phillips on Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill
AFP President Tim Phillips on Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill
“Americans for Prosperity has many activists affected by Hurricane Sandy, and we have expressed deep concern for all victims suffering in the storm’s aftermath.
“We’ve been inspired to see the outpouring of support from surrounding communities, charitable organizations, churches and other private groups. Unfortunately, when the Federal Government gets involved, things rarely go as they should, and the Hurricane Relief Bill is no different.
“It’s disappointing that Washington politicians are using this tragedy to secure billions in spending for their own pet projects like fisheries in Alaska, new cars for Homeland Security or tree planting on private property. Regardless, any new disaster relief legislation – no matter what its intended purpose – should be offset by other spending cuts. This bill is not, which is one reason why AFP has called on Congress to reject the current legislation.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with those facing hardship during this Holiday season, and we hope for a speedy resolution to their difficulty.”
