Lee Fang Gets it Wrong
Recently Lee Fang, a progressive activist formerly at ThinkProgress, published a blog post on Republic Report. This blog post is laden with many erroneous claims and mischaracterizations about Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and its activities.
For the past eight years, AFP has been committed to educating citizens and mobilizing them to become effective advocates for the issues that impact economic freedom. During this time AFP launched projects such as November is Coming, Spending Revolt, and Cut Spending Now, all of which held rallies across the country educating attendees on free-market public policy issues.
Fang appears to lack a basic understanding of issue advocacy 501(c)(4) organizations. All of the projects mentioned by Fang fell well within the bounds of our tax-exempt mission.
Cleta Mitchell, a respected Washington, D.C. campaign finance attorney, addressed Fang’s accusations in a revealing article published here at the Daily Caller. I urge you to read through it for a more complete breakdown on how and why Fang’s facts are so twisted.
