March 09, 2012 J

In 2012, New York’s new Property Tax Cap has gone into effect, effectively capping the growth in local property taxes to a minimum of two percent or the rate of inflation, whichever is less. Any tax increase above the cap will need a supermajority approval by more than 60 percent of the voters in a school district or two-thirds of the governing body in a county, city, town, village or special district.
