In 2012, New Yorks new Property Tax Cap has gone into effect, effectively capping the growth in local property taxes to a minimum of two percent or the rate of inflation, whichever is less. Any tax increase above the cap will need a supermajority approval by more than 60 percent of the voters in a school district or two-thirds of the governing body in a county, city, town, village or special district.

Late last week, a group of 100 U.S. Representatives sent a letter to the so-called Super Committee urging the handpicked group of twelve legislators to consider all options for mandatory and discretionary spending and revenues in order to reach the committees goal of $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction over the next ten years. In Washington, speak this is code for raising taxes.
Five New York Republicans signed that letter: Peter King (R-NY 3), Bob Turner (R-NY 9), Mike Grimm (R-NY 13), Richard Hanna (R-NY 24), and Tom Reed (R-NY 24).

The Taxation Without Representation Tour will begin on Tuesday, October 11 in Niagara County and continue with events each day, ending with a rally on Saturday, October 15 in Rockland County.
