DATELINE: SOMERSET, NY Americans for Prosperity joined forces today with several upstate New York elected leaders to sound the alarm bell over the job-killing Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) Cap & Trade scheme and other destructive green regulations that are threatening the viability of the areas electricity-producing coal plants and risking thousands of jobs in the region.
Americans for Prosperity and state and local elected officials will hold a joint press conference next Tuesday, August 16th in the Town of Somerset to draw attention to the threat posed to seventeen power plants in the Upstate New York Region.
The event is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Somerset Town Hall, 8700 Haight Road, with state Senator George Maziarz, Assemblyman Steve Hawley, Somerset Councilman Daniel Engert, and AFP NJ Director Steve Lonegan to highlight the destructive impact the RGGI Cap & Trade scheme and other burdensome taxes on ratepayers are having on upstate New York.
The press conference will draw attention specifically to the threat posed to AES Somerset Generation Plant and the regions sixteen other coal plants. Last year, AES Somerset was forced to suspend operations due to economic pressures brought about by the RGGI Cap & Trade program and other regulatory mandates.
