Report: NJ Nation's #1 Outbound Migration State In 2012

January 11, 2013

For the second time in the last three years, New Jersey earned the ignominy of being the nation’s #1 outbound migration state. United Van Lines, which issues a yearly report on migration trends among the contiguous 48 states, says New Jersey topped the list with an outbound migration rate of 62%. Put another way, for every 1 customer moving into the Garden State, almost 2 are heading for the exits.

With the state in such dismal fiscal condition, and the tax climate in New Jersey remaining oppressive for both residents and businesses, it should come as no surprise that many of our friends and neighbors are voting with their feet.

The United Van Lines Study will also be housed at AFP-NJ’s Liberty Library, where you can also find scores of other invaluable research reports and policy papers on the fiscal issues facing New Jersey and the nation.
