Americans for Prosperity to Combat “Global Wind Day” Fanaticism this Friday, June 15
Counter-Protests against Environmental Extremists’ Push for Wasteful, Job-Destroying Offshore Wind to Be Held in Asbury Park, Ocean City
BOGOTA, NJ – Americans for Prosperity, the state’s leading free-market, grassroots organization, will take on extremists in the environmental movement this Friday by holding counter-protests to oppose their so-called “Global Wind Day” push for expensive, inefficient and job-destroying offshore wind energy.
“Far left European groups and other radical elements of the environmental movement want to use this event to spread their propaganda about offshore wind energy,” said Steve Lonegan, state director of Americans for Prosperity’s New Jersey chapter. “We’re going to go toe to toe with them and refute their nonsense with the facts.
“This is all part of a very radical, globalist movement that will have damaging, lost-lasting effects on America’s economy and our ability to compete,” warned Lonegan. “Offshore wind is the most expensive way to produce electricity. The idea that offshore wind energy will be able to fuel our economy is utter lunacy.
“Here in the states New Jersey has become the epicenter in the battle over offshore wind,” added Lonegan. “The State has authorized a $100 million taxpayer-subsidized offshore wind boondoggle that will have devastating consequences for our economy and jobs. One analysis of this misguided scheme said it would result in the most expensive wind energy in the world!”
“The last thing this state needs, let alone the rest of the country, is for our economy and our quality of life to be subverted by this radical environmental agenda,” said Lonegan. “So, those of us in the conservative movement are not going to sit back and let them get away with it.”
Americans for Prosperity has continued to urge the governor to back out of the offshore windmill scheme with more than 1,000 citizen activists having signed AFP’s action alert letter to the governor on this issue.
For more information on Friday’s demonstrations, contact Mike Proto, AFP Communications Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning 201-487-8844. Mr. Lonegan is also available for further comment.
