Americans for Prosperity Applauds Gov. Christie for Keeping New Jersey Out of RGGI Cap-and-Trade Scheme
Governor Rejects Radical Environmentalists’ Attempts to Reimpose Job-Destroying Cap-and-Trade Tax
BOGOTA, NJ – Americans for Prosperity state director Steve Lonegan has issued the following statement in the wake of Gov. Christie’s absolute veto of Bill A1998/S1322, a measure aimed at forcing New Jersey back into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) Cap-and-Trade scheme.
“Last year Gov. Christie rightfully called the RGGI Cap-and-Trade scheme a ‘gimmicky’ program that did nothing but levy a wasteful tax on struggling New Jersey businesses and consumers.
“Since the governor pulled New Jersey out of this destructive cap-and-trade program, the radical environmentalist movement has polluted the debate over RGGI with lies, distortions and a slew of bogus reports in a desperate attempt to bamboozle the public, legislators and the governor that the RGGI scheme has not been a failure.
“Today, Americans for Prosperity applauds the governor for rebuffing these efforts, reaffirming his stance against this job-destroying scheme and standing up for New Jersey ratepayers.”
