Electric Vehicles Plugged In To Taxpayers’ Wallets
Camden County revealed 7 brand new electric vehicle charging stations this week as part of its sustainability plan.
The project installed 7 charging stations around Camden County at a cost of $60,000. The U.S. Department of Energy supplied a $30,000 dollar grant for the project, leaving the county to foot the bill for the remaining $30,000.
While this may not seem as terrible as some of the other ways the state has been wasting tax dollars, Ford estimates there are only roughly 20 electric vehicles in Camden. Are 20 vehicles enough to warrant a $60,000 project? The stations are also available to use “free” of charge for the next year — meaning more taxpayer dollars spent.
This is just another example of out of control government spending and another reason it’s important for citizens to keep an eye on how local officials are spending our hard-earned tax dollars.
