NEW YORK, NY – More than one hundred Americans for Prosperity activists took to the streets of Manhattan today to take a stand against Occupy Wall Street and escalate grassroots pressure against President Obama’s failing agenda.

Steve Lonegan, head Americans for Prosperity’s New Jersey chapter, encapsulated why the free-market group has launched the Failing Agenda Tour.

“At Americans for Prosperity we represent millions of grassroots activists from all walks of life across this nation who share simple values: the right to be free, a belief in our liberty and our desire to succeed.

“There’s a lot of talk about jobs…but I want to talk about freedom,” continued Lonegan, “Because without liberty we cannot have prosperity.

“Today, under this failed agenda they want every American to have a job, as long as everyone works to support the government. We want to support individual liberty.”

“Barbara from Harlem”, a local broadcast host and self-described registered Democrat, also spoke at today’s rally and delivered impassioned remarks in support of freedom and free markets.

“We’re gathered here today because we know that the agenda of Obama has failed Americans. We do believe in capitalism and the free market. We believe that the unemployment should not be where it is today. And it has affected the inner city very drastically. At least 40% of our young people are not able to find work. That is unacceptable for America! That is unacceptable regardless of what party you’re a member of.

“I am a registered Democrat but I refuse to be controlled. I want my liberty. I want my freedoms and I know that here in America if I work there’s no limit to how far I can go.”

Yvonne Ferise, a Latino businesswoman and immigrant from New Jersey, expressed gratitude for the opportunity America has afforded her.

“This country gave me the opportunity I never could have in my old one,” said Ferise.  “I have had success here and I am very happy and very grateful for this country. I made it by myself. I didn’t get any help from the government. I did everything myself.

“We don’t need to have the government control our lives like in health care and to make our decisions for us. What we need is freedom,” said Ferise.
