AFP: “Corporate Welfare Is No Way To Grow An Economy”
Pro-Taxpayer Group Slams Passage of “Economic Opportunity Act”
BOGOTA, NJ – Americans for Prosperity deputy state director Daryn Iwicki has issued the following statement regarding the “The New Jersey Economic Opportunity Act of 2013” which was passed by the state Legislature subsequent to today’s Senate vote.
“The so-called Economic Opportunity Act is emblematic of everything that’s wrong with Trenton. Rather than cutting taxes to free our entrepreneurs and job creators, the state Legislature passes a convoluted bill that no one likes and no one even believes will help our state.
“Job creators in New Jersey are not looking for handouts and corporate welfare to grow their businesses. They are looking for Trenton to cut taxes, stop regulating them to death and get off their backs.
“That’s the way to make New Jersey competitive and prosperous again. Not by having Trenton pick winners and losers. And not by having Trenton come up with ludicrous schemes that the powers-that-be think will incentivize business to stay here.
“At the end of the day, corporate welfare is no way to grow an economy. The only incentive needed to grow our economy and create jobs in New Jersey is a vibrant free market that is not bogged down by an overbearing and intrusive state government.
“Trenton lawmakers should have scrapped this bill a long time ago and focused for a change on adopting free-market policies to help our state’s economy, not more failed Big-Government intervention.”
