$6B Open Space CR Back Again!
The Senate Energy and Environment Committee has reintroduced a proposed constitutional amendment to our state constitution. The bill, SCR2, would dedicate up to $6 BILLION for the next 30 fiscal years for open space preservation.
Their goal is to preserve more than 1 million acres of land…as much land as the entire state of Rhode Island! This would be in addition to the 25% of land our government already owns.
That’s $6 BILLION that could be used to pay down our debt, address our pension crisis or to provide real property tax relief for struggling New Jersey families…and put New Jersey back on a path to prosperity!
This bill would be a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars. The State should be considering public-private partnerships to help turn open space like state parks, as well as historic sites, into a net benefit instead of a net liability for taxpayers.
AFP will be testifying against this bad bill this coming Monday at 10am. Activists are urged to contact members of the committee to urge them to vote down SCR2!
