Americans for Prosperity Blasts Sierra Club for Polluting RGGI Debate with Lies and Distortions
Far Left Environmentalist Group Doesn’t Have Their Facts Straight on Cap & Trade Scheme

BOGOTA, NJ – Americans for Prosperity, the nation’s leading free-market, grassroots organization, is blasting the Sierra Club for promulgating lies and distortions about the RGGI Cap & Trade scheme.

The extremist environmental group sent an e-mail blast to its state membership yesterday in an effort to overturn Governor Christie’s veto of legislation that would keep New Jersey in the failed program. The release, which prompted members to send a letter to legislators on the matter, was laced with bogus claims of reduced “global warming pollution,” job creation and savings for New Jersey ratepayers and businesses.

AFP-NJ state director Steve Lonegan ripped the Sierra Club for its tactics.

“The eco-zealots at the Sierra Club apparently will do or say anything to advance their far left agenda – while the rest of us will have to pay for their crusade for so-called alternative energy in the way of higher taxes, higher electricity prices and lost jobs.

“Sierra’s claims of reduced ‘global warming pollution’ are blatant lies. By admission of RGGI’s own consultants and energy officials, the scheme will have zero impact on carbon emissions for twenty years. Even RGGI chairman David Littell just last week admitted that the cap was a failure and not stringent enough to have any impact,” added Lonegan.

“Worse yet, the Sierra Club also spreads this fantasy that RGGI has created ‘thousands of new jobs.’ Yet, the evidence for all of these untold numbers of ‘green jobs’ created or saved is never produced. These assertions are totally unfounded and unsubstantiated and fly in the face of a multitude of analyses regarding cap-and-trade projecting net job losses.

“As Obama’s stimulus taught us, spreading the wealth around, is no basis for job creation. And forcing the price of electricity to skyrocket doesn’t help businesses and residents save money. It only costs our state jobs.”

“The Sierra Club claims are nothing but conjured up ‘facts’ by a group of environmental fanatics dead set on destroying our state’s prosperity in the name of so-called global warming.

“Citizens and legislators ought to reject the Sierra Club’s lies, distortions and underhanded tactics,” said Lonegan.
