Americans for Prosperity: PR: New Hampshire Strikes Major Blow To RGGI, Senators Sweeney And Kean Should Follow Suit
BOGOTA, NJ Americans for Prosperity is calling on the state Legislature to pull New Jersey out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) in the wake of an overwhelming vote in New Hampshire House to pull the New England state out of the ten state cap-and-trade scheme.
AFP-NJ state director Steve Lonegan issued the following statement.
Today, representatives in New Hampshire took a stand on behalf of ratepayers, voting by more than a two-to-one margin to repeal the states participation in the RGGI cap-and-trade scheme.
Like all cap-and-trade opponents, these New Hampshire lawmakers know that RGGI is a scam designed to drive energy prices through the roof, destroy their states competitiveness, and cost their state thousands of jobs.
Here in New Jersey, the momentum to put an end to our states participation in this cap-and-trade scheme is building. The repeal legislation introduced in the Assembly and Senate now has the bi-partisan support of thirty-six lawmakers.
The taxpayers of New Jersey are already subject to the one of the worst tax climates in the country and they should not be forced to pay the highest electricity rates. The time has come for Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean and Senate President Steve Sweeney to take a stand against this cap-and-trade energy tax and support the effort to withdraw New Jersey from the secretive RGGI scheme once and for all.
Americans for Prosperity recently launched a media campaign to educate citizens about New Jerseys participation in RGGI and elicit support for its repeal.
