PR: Americans for Prosperity: PolitiFact Delivers Faulty, Misleading Toll Hike Rating
For Immediate Release January 2, 2011
BOGOTA, NJ Americans for Prosperity Communications Director Mike Proto has issued the following statement in response to a Star-Ledger PolitiFact article which labeled as false the pro-taxpayer groups claim that New Jerseyans are subject to the highest tolls in the nation.
PolitiFacts rating has completely ignored the thrust of Americans for Prosperitys statement, said Proto. Their analysis focuses solely on the tolls on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway but does not take into account all of the tolls New Jersey motorists are subject to, including as they commute into New York via the George Washington Bridge, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, the Lincoln Tunnel or the Holland Tunnel.
Until PolitiFact can come forward with a study that accurately shows the true costs of tolls on New Jersey commuters — a study that would include these tolls and others, as well as give a true sense of commuting patterns that take into account how often New Jersey drivers are paying these tolls to borrow a phrase, PolitiFacts pants are on fire and they ought to retract their false rating.
In the meantime, we invite PolitiFact to try and convince New Jersey drivers who are now facing staggering 50% increases on these two major highways, in addition to the recently enacted toll hikes along Hudson River crossings, that they dont pay some of the highest tolls around.
