Americans for Prosperity Launches Radio Ad Urging Gov. Christie to Veto ObamaCare Exchange
Governor Facing Thursday, Dec. 6 Deadline on Central Pillar of Federal Health Care Takeover
BOGOTA, NJ – Americans for Prosperity, the state’s leading grassroots, free-market organization, is taking to the airwaves today to urge Gov. Christie to stand up for New Jerseyans’ health care freedom. The 60-second Taxpayer Minute radio spot calls on citizens to phone the governor’s office and press for his veto of the New Jersey Health Benefit Exchange Act.
By law the governor must act by Thursday, December 6th on the bill which passed the Legislature back in October. The deadline to inform the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of the State’s intent to create an exchange is Friday, Dec. 14. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius gave states a one month extension in November in the wake of ongoing confusion about how the bureaucratic exchanges need to be run.
“Establishment of an exchange is one of the key mechanisms for foisting the government takeover of health care on New Jerseyans,” warned AFP state director Steve Lonegan. “Not only would the exchange represent a direct violation of patients’ health care freedom and limit patient choice, but the establishment of this bureaucracy would trigger tax penalties on New Jersey businesses that fail to comply with ObamaCare’s arbitrary insurance coverage mandates. The State would also be on the hook for as much as $100 million a year in operating costs.”
“New Jerseyans need to know what’s at stake,” continued Lonegan. “And Gov. Christie needs to stand up for taxpayers and for the health care freedom of every New Jerseyan by vetoing this bill.”
Mayor Lonegan is available for further comment regarding AFP’s effort to thwart ObamaCare in New Jersey. Please direct inquiries to Americans for Prosperity at 201-487-8844.
