AFP-New Jersey Urges House to Delay Individual and Employer Mandates

“A simple matter of fairness,” says deputy state director Daryn Iwicki

BOGOTA, NJ – Americans for Prosperity is urging House lawmakers to vote Yes on two bills coming to the floor tomorrow (Wednesday). The first, The Authority for Mandate Delay Act (H.R. 2667) would codify President Obama’s decision to delay the employer mandate under ObamaCare; the second, The Fairness for American Families Act (H.R. 2668) would extend the same delay to the individual mandate.

The Obama administration has shown through the employer mandate delay that the law passed in 2010 is simply unworkable; yet they have yet to also grant a reprieve to individuals, pitting them against the well-being of Americans who still don’t support the law.

AFP-New Jersey Deputy State Director Daryn Iwicki released the following statement before the vote:

“The Obama administration should not play politics by lending businesses a hand and leaving the rest of us in the dust. This is a simple matter of fairness. If large companies are going to get a reprieve from mandates and penalties, the average American certainly deserves the same treatment.

“As premiums drift higher and the economy continues to struggle, the last thing hard-working Americans need is one more botched government program to pay for. Our newest generation of workers may be hit hardest, as costs are shifted from the old and sick to the young and healthy, another blow to our economic growth.

“With each passing day, it becomes clearer that ObamaCare is bad medicine for the country. In light of this calamitous rollout, it’s only responsible that the key provisions of the law be delayed, and ultimately, repealed entirely.

“AFP-New Jersey calls upon the entire New Jersey delegation in the House to support these two pieces of legislation. AFP especially calls on those members of the Democratic caucus who are responsible for foisting this disastrous health care law on the American people, including Rep. Frank Pallone (D-06), self-proclaimed author of PPACA, to supporting delaying these onerous and punitive ObamaCare mandates.”
