Mercatus Center: The Hidden Costs of Tax Compliance

A new study by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, The Hidden Costs of Tax Compliance, highlights the need to massively reform the federal tax code.

Today, the federal tax code has become so complex that it takes literally more than 6 billion hours for Americans just to comply with its seemingly endless number of provisions. And the result is a massive amount of lost wealth, with “hidden compliance costs between $215 billion and $987 billion annually.”
