Americans for Prosperity Statement on Governor Signing Budget with No Tax Increases, No Medicaid Expansion
MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today offered the following statement on Governor Maggie Hassan’s signing of the $10.7 billion state budget (HBs 1 & 2).
“With the Governor’s signature, New Hampshire now has a state budget that doesn’t increase taxes and doesn’t include the ObamaCare Medicaid expansion,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “This fiscally responsible budget is now law, and our citizens can rest easy that they will not feel the sting of the many tax and fee hikes that were proposed throughout this year. That’s a win for our economy and for the New Hampshire Advantage.”
Moore went on to say that, by signing the budget, Governor Hassan takes responsibility to meet the personnel reductions, “back of the budget” and operating lapse estimates included in the plan.
“Both by participating in the budget negotiation process and now by signing the budget, Governor Hassan has taken ownership of the over $100 million in lapse estimates, the $25 million personnel reduction and the $7 million in back of the budget reductions for the Department of Health and Human Services,” added Moore. “This is going to take a significant management focus of her time and energies to ensure that every state agency is meeting its share of savings required to make this budget work. Clearly, she has her work cut out for her to make sure that she won’t be asking the legislature to come back next year to find new taxes to cover holes in her budget.”
