Americans for Prosperity Stands Up, Joins Fight Against Internet Sales Tax

March 13, 2013

MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity has joined the fight against the Internet sales tax known as the “Marketplace Fairness Act” by joining other free market groups in sending a letter to Congress opposing the misguided Internet sales tax bill.  The legislation would force businesses in New Hampshire to collect and remit sales taxes to those states that do impose them on their citizens who purchase goods and services online.

“The so-called Marketplace Fairness Act is a direct assault on New Hampshire’s cherished no-sales tax status,” said Greg Moore Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire State Director.  “In the insatiable quest by some states to take as much money from their citizens as possible, some legislators are trying to turn New Hampshire small businesses into tax collectors for other states, adding an enormous administrative burden on our job creators.  Americans for Prosperity has joined other free market groups to stand strongly against this misguided effort.”

Senator Kelly Ayotte has filed bipartisan legislation with Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon to make clear that New Hampshire should not be subject to collecting sales taxes for other states.

“We commend Senator Ayotte for her outspoken efforts to block the Internet sales tax,” Moore added.  “We certainly hope our entire congressional delegation works to take a similar leadership role in opposing this flawed bill.  As a no sales tax state, we need all of our representatives to make blocking this major encumbrance on our businesses a top priority.”
