Americans for Prosperity-NH Urges House Committee Against Medicaid Expansion

March 07, 2013

MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity New Hampshire is urging against the expansion of Medicaid in the state.  A Joint House Committee hearing will meet on the proposed expansion of the program today.

“Medicaid expansion is another unaffordable assault on New Hampshire taxpayers.  A national study showed that putting up to 80,000 new recipients on Medicaid will cost our citizens another $126 million in costs over the next 8 years,” said Greg Moore, State Director of Americans for Prosperity-NH.  “That is an outrageous and unacceptable burden to ask our citizens to carry all to implement a failing ObamaCare scheme that is making health care more costly and adding huge new tax hikes to the small businesses and working families of New Hampshire.”

The House Finance and Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee Hearing will take place at 1PM and include a presentation on Medicaid expansion followed by a public hearing on the matter.  Medicaid is currently the largest item in the state budget.

A study by our Department of Health and Human Services shows that Medicaid expansion will cost our hospitals more money, which they in turn, will pass on to privately insured patients, which will raise the cost of health insurance,” continued Moore.  “So if we expand Medicaid not only will our citizens be forced to pay higher taxes, but we’ll also have to pay more for our existing health care coverage.  Medicaid expansion is bad medicine for our citizens and our health care providers.”

Moore previously served as Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for NH’s Department of Health and Human Services.
