Americans for Prosperity Comments on New Hampshire’s Tax Freedom Day Slipping from April 15 to April 19

April 07, 2014

MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) offered the following comments in response to today’s announcement that New Hampshire’s Tax Freedom Day, the day in which Americans have earned enough to pay for their taxes for the year, has slipped from April 15th last year to April 19th this year.  The four day slide was greater than the national average, which extended three days, and checks in at April 21st.

“While it’s disheartening that Americans have to work for over three and a half months just to pay off their tax bills, it’s even more concerning that this day is getting later this year,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director.  “However, the biggest concern is that New Hampshire’s slide was even great than the national average.  With increases in the tobacco and home heating oil taxes last year and the likely passage of a 23% hike in the gas and diesel tax, residents of the Granite State have every reason to believe that our low tax status is under assault.  It’s time for a commitment to cutting taxes, not more tax hikes, like we’ve seen the past two years.”
