Americans for Prosperity Comments on Miniscule ObamaCare Enrollment Figures for New Hampshire

November 13, 2013

MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today offered the following statement in response to the release by the Obama Administration that only 269 individuals have completed their applications for a plan during October in the health insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act, commonly called ObamaCare.  This number was contradicted by Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the only insurer offering plans in the exchange, who told the Joint Health Care Reform Oversight Committee that due to technical problems, no one had enrolled in a plan in the first month.

“The dismal failure of ObamaCare was clearly demonstrated by these incredibly lackluster enrollment figures,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director.  “When you couple higher premiums with a network that cuts off 10 hospitals and a website that won’t work, you have the type of ‘debacle’ that these figures show.  Moreover, given that the only insurer in the exchange has made it clear that no one has actually enrolled in a plan, it’s obvious that even the tiny number of 269 is inflated.  It’s time to delay this disastrous law and go back to the drawing board for a health care solution that actually works for New Hampshire.”

Moore pointed out that Anthem also announced that it has sent out 22,000 cancellations for health insurance policies as a result of the ObamaCare law.

“The whole concept behind ObamaCare was to reduce the number of uninsured, but even if we accept the Administration’s figures that 269 New Hampshire residents have signed up, the ratio of people losing coverage versus gaining it is 82 to 1 – and that’s only from one insurer,” Moore added.  “When we add in the individuals who lost coverage from all insurance companies in the state, that number will grow, and show that ObamaCare has actually been counterproductive from its original goal.  This law is causing serious problems for real people who lose their coverage and then will often be forced to try to use a broken website to buy more expensive insurance.  It’s time for leadership in Washington, not more rhetoric.”
