Americans for Prosperity Comments on Gary Lambert Signing AFP No Climate Tax Pledge

June 18, 2014

MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today made the following comments in response to former State Senator Gary Lambert signing AFP’s No Climate Tax pledge.

“While conversions have historically been recognized on the Road to Damascus, we’re glad to see that Senator Lambert has converted his position on a climate taxes on the Road to Washington,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director.  “Carbon taxes and cap-and-trade schemes only drive up the cost of energy for consumers and undermine our economy.  Our economic recovery today is being driven by a tremendous increase in energy production, but there are some, such as President Obama, who want to add job-killing regulations to strangle this growth.  Our No Climate Tax pledge is one way for individuals to let the public know that they won’t stand for killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.”

AFP noted that as a State Senator, Lambert cast the deciding vote against repealing the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a cap-and-trade program for electricity and also voted against banning Low Carbon Fuel Standards, a proposed cap-and-trade program for liquid fuels, such as gasoline and heating oil.

“Senator Lambert rightly points out that New Hampshire has some of the highest energy prices in the country, but they would have been lowered if he had voted to repeal the RGGI program, which is a climate tax, in 2011,” added Moore.  “We are encouraged that he appears to have seen the light and now opposes these schemes that kill jobs and make us less competitive.  We hope all candidates stand up against these taxes and regulations, such as the ones that the EPA just proposed.  Our economy is still struggling and doesn’t need any more impediments.”
