Americans for Prosperity Calls Out Legislative Committee’s Vote to Accept Funds for ObamaCare Exchange in New Hampshire
MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today called out the vote late yesterday afternoon by the Joint Health Care Reform Oversight Committee to accept federal funds under the Affordable Care Act, commonly called ObamaCare, for a New Hampshire health insurance exchange. Senators Jeb Bradley and Peggy Gilmour and Representatives Butler and Rosenwald voted in favor of taking ObamaCare exchange funds, with Senator Andy Sanborn and Representative John Hunt voting against the item.
“It’s truly disappointing that New Hampshire is moving towards a full-blown implementation of ObamaCare,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “Between the vote tomorrow on ObamaCare Medicaid expansion and yesterday’s vote for ObamaCare exchange funding, Senate leadership is now leading the way to bring this flawed law to New Hampshire. While the public is rejecting ObamaCare, this state is being dragged further into the quicksand this law represents.”
Last month, the Fiscal Committee tabled the item (page 36 on the Fiscal Committee items list), which totals over $2 million, pending approval of the Oversight Committee. The Fiscal Committee has called for an “emergency” meeting this Friday to pass approval of these federal ObamaCare funds.
“The notion that the Fiscal Committee needs to have an ‘emergency’ meeting to accept taxpayer funds for an ObamaCare exchange shows just how committed they are to ramming this through before opposition can build and the public has a chance to weigh against this poor decision,” added Moore. “With the failures of exchanges in Oregon and Maryland, one has to wonder why New Hampshire legislators would want anything to do with the damage they are doing to American citizens. The state should be working to move away from ObamaCare, not embracing these ideas.”
