Americans for Prosperity Calls House Effort to Ram Through Ineffective, Costly ObamaCare Medicaid Expansion Typical Washington Tactics
CONCORD – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) called today’s effort to pass Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act, commonly called ObamaCare, in the New Hampshire House typical of how Washington conducts itself, not the New Hampshire legislature.
“Speaker Norelli’s effort to bully the House into bringing ObamaCare to New Hampshire is how business is done in Congress, and way outside of New Hampshire’s tradition,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director and former NH House Chief of Staff. “Passing a huge new entitlement, without so much as a public hearing, or a review by the House Finance committee, should offend all legislators, regardless of party. It is a gross misuse of power and a sign of the desperation of the advocates of ObamaCare in trying to rush this ill-founded law into effect here.”
Moore said the numerous studies showing poor health outcomes under Medicaid and increase in emergency room usage, as well as the uncertain long-term financing of the program, as additional reasons to oppose this bill.
“Medicaid expansion in New Hampshire under ObamaCare is a bad deal,” added Moore. “It will push tens of thousands of our citizens into a substandard health care system where they are twice as likely to die as the privately insured from surgery and show no better health outcomes than the uninsured. Beyond this, we now know that Medicaid expansion means more emergency room usage, meaning that everyone will have to wait longer to get care. In every way, expanding Medicaid is a purely ideological strategy to grow government and prepare a path for a single-payer health care system.”
