Americans for Prosperity Blasts Vote by Shea-Porter, Kuster for Job-Killing ObamaCare Medical Device Tax
MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today blasted the vote by Representatives Carol Shea-Porter and Ann McLane Kuster in support of the Medical Device Tax included in ObamaCare. Yesterday, as part of the continuing resolution to fund the federal government, there was a vote to eliminate the 2.3% sales tax on medical devices, which both Reps. Shea-Porter and Kuster opposed.
“While the Medical Device Tax is just one of 21 new taxes in ObamaCare, which total over $1 billion, it is one that particularly hurts jobs here in New Hampshire,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “Representatives Shea-Porter and Kuster need to know that they not only voted for a tax increase, they also voted against a number of local companies, like Next Step Orthotics in Manchester, Salient Surgical in Portsmouth, AgaMatrix in Salem and Atrium Medical in Hudson who are trying to create jobs here. For a state like New Hampshire, which tries to attract high-paying jobs in the medical sector, this tax is a real job killer.”
AFP-NH pointed out that the position of Shea-Porter and Kuster puts them at odds with New Hampshire’s two Senators, Kelly Ayotte and Jeanne Shaheen, who have both voted to repeal the Medical Device Tax.
“Senators Shaheen and Ayotte know that a sales tax on medical devices hurts New Hampshire’s economy,” Moore added. “According to the Advanced Medical Technology Association, the tax will cost 43,000 jobs nationally, and a number of them will be here in New Hampshire. One has to wonder why Representatives Shea-Porter and Kuster were willing to support a tax that they know is already undercutting New Hampshire’s economy and costing us jobs.”
