Americans for Prosperity Blasts ObamaCare Rollout Failure in New Hampshire, No Enrollments in Exchange, 20% Higher Prices for Those Buying Policies Outside of Exchange
MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today called out the impact of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as ObamaCare, in New Hampshire. According to the New Hampshire Union Leader, at the meeting of Joint Health Care Reform Oversight Committee meeting yesterday, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield – the only insurer in the federal ObamaCare exchange for New Hampshire – admitted that due to problems with federal data exchanges, no state residents have enrolled in policies through the federal portal. In addition, at the meeting, Anthem also pointed out that insurance policies sold to individuals outside of the exchange would be 20% more expensive, even with the “narrow network” of limited health care providers.
“Over a month into the implementation of ObamaCare, New Hampshire residents are left with a stark choice, either trying to enroll through a website that doesn’t work and hasn’t gotten a single person in the state health insurance or paying 20% more for your health insurance outside of the exchange,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “This is a sign of the failures of this program and why we need to delay the implementation of ObamaCare immediately. The working families of New Hampshire deserve better than to be left with the uncertainty of trying to enroll on a website that won’t work or having a huge premium increase. It’s time for the President and Congress to do the right thing and put the brakes on this mess.”
Additionally, Anthem alone has indicated that it has sent out over 22,000 policy cancellations notices to individuals, as their policies don’t conform to the new ObamaCare regulations. The committee did not get data on cancellations from other health care providers at the hearing.
“With just one health insurer telling us that 22,000 people are losing their policies and that zero have enrolled in new policies through the exchange, the promise that health care reform would reduce the number of uninsured is turning out to be another whopper by this administration,” Moore added. “What we are seeing thanks to ObamaCare is higher premiums and more uninsured. We call on all of our federal delegation, and especially Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter – who voted for this law because of the promises that simply have not come true, to move quickly to bring sanity back to the health care marketplace by calling a halt to the destructive implementation of the ACA.”
