Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire Urges Senate to Pass Super Majority Legislation
People of the Granite State Deserve a Vote on Tax Increases
WINDHAM Americans for Prosperity (AFP) New Hampshire is urging members of the New Hampshire Senate to pass CACR 6, a proposed Constitutional Amendment that would require a 3/5 majority vote of the legislature for any increase in taxes or fees without an amendment that would alter the bill.
The people of New Hampshire deserve a say in how their tax dollars are spent and how and if their taxes can be raised, said Corey R. Lewandowski, State Director of Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire. We support CACR 6 as passed by the House because it returns more control to the taxpayers in this state about how and if their taxes can be raised. Additionally it makes it more difficult for New Hampshire taxpayers to be burdened with the political whims of the legislature which might be tempted to increase taxes to pay for their spending programs.
The so-called Super Majority Legislation passed the New Hampshire House last year. However a proposed amendment offered by Senate President Peter Bragdon would alter the legislation significantly.
We adamantly oppose Senator Bragdons amendment that would allow for budget cap increases based on population and inflation, Lewandowski added. The people of New Hampshire deserve a vote on whether or not their taxes can be increased and the House version of CACR 6 gives them that opportunity. We urge the Senate to pass CACR 6 as passed by the House and let the people of New Hampshire vote on the amendment this fall.
