MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today pointed to a report released by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce released late yesterday which shows that President Obama’s proposed EPA regulation would cost the New England region’s economy $2.7 billion annually and would destroy 4,700 jobs in the region. AFP-NH called on the members of the New Hampshire delegation to oppose the regulations.
“For months, we have said that President Obama’s proposals would hurt our economy and kill jobs, and now we know just how much damage it will do to the region,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. These plans will put nearly 5,000 people out of work in the region and cost our economy billions each year. If the explicit goal of the President was to undercut any recovery, he could hardly have come up with a more destructive plan. On behalf of the over 36,000 AFP members in New Hampshire, we call on our delegation to tell President Obama to stop his proposal to kill jobs and our economy.”
Additionally, the report demonstrated that the regulations would increase electricity costs in the Northeast, which are already among the highest in the nation, by $600 million each year.
“We already have among the highest energy costs in the nation, and it is a real competitive disadvantage for New Hampshire to attract and grow employers here,” added Moore. “This scheme by the President will only make that problem worse while shipping more jobs out of the region and the country. This is a truly terrible policy and our residents will pay the price for this short-sighted policy.”
