Americans for Prosperity-NH Expresses Disappointment in Senate Passage of the Marketplace Fairness Act

May 07, 2013

MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity is expressing their disappointment in tonight’s Senate vote to create a new tax by voting to pass the so-called Marketplace Fairness Act.   The Senate voted 69-27 tonight to pass the bill.  Both Senator Shaheen and Senator Ayotte voted against it.

“New Hampshire businesses should be focused on expanding their businesses and hiring more workers; not be turned into tax collectors for other states,” said Greg Moore Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire State Director.  “Passage of the Marketplace Fairness Act is a direct assault on the New Hampshire Advantage.”

The Marketplace Fairness Act legislation would force New Hampshire businesses to collect and remit sales taxes to those states that do impose them on their citizens who purchase goods and services online.

“Complying with the internet sales tax would be a considerable administrative burden for New Hampshire companies, particularly small businesses, forcing them to devote time and resources to compliance rather than contributing to our economy.” added Moore.
