WINDHAM – Americans for Prosperity (AFP) New Hampshire is announcing their support for CACR 1, a proposed Constitutional Amendment that would require a 3/5 majority vote of the legislature for any tax or fee increase. The House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing on CACR 1 Wednesday.
“The people of New Hampshire deserve to have a say in how and if their taxes are raised,” said Corey R. Lewandowski, State Director of Americans for Prosperity-New Hampshire. “CACR 1 will return control to NH taxpayers while making it more difficult for taxes to be raised due to the political whims of the legislature.”
The legislation proposed by Representative Jordan Ulery (Hillsborough 37) must receive approval of 3/5 of each body of the NH legislature. If that approval is garnered, CACR 1 would be placed on the ballot in November 2014 as a proposed constitutional amendment.
Representative Ulery introduced the same legislation last year, known as CACR 6, which failed to get the 3/5 vote in the House required to move forward.
“Restraining the legislature’s ability to tax also restricts their ability to increase spending,” Lewandowski added. “We strongly support CACR 1.”
