MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) is condemning Senator Jeanne Shaheen for today’s flip-flop in support of the Medical Device Tax included in ObamaCare. Senator Shaheen’s vote came as part of the on-going continuing resolution debate to fund the federal government in Washington. The U.S. House had attached an amendment to the continuing resolution that would have eliminated the 2.3% sales tax on medical devices. The Senate voted to remove that amendment and Senator Shaheen supported the removal, thus casting her vote in support of the 2.3% sales tax on medical devices.
“The Medical Device Tax is a job killer, period, especially here in New Hampshire,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “This tax increase will hit a number of New Hampshire companies still struggling to make it by in a difficult economy and seeking to attract more high-paying jobs to our state. All of which will be more difficult now thanks to Senator Shaheen’s vote.”
AFP-NH pointed out that today’s vote comes after Senator Shaheen publicly signed a letter to ask Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to delay implementing Obamacare’s 2.3 percent medical device tax.
“Senator Shaheen’s flip-flop on such an important issue shows she is willing to place partisanship before the people of New Hampshire and is just bad news for an important segment of our economy,” Moore added. “This tax supported by Senator Shaheen in today’s flip-flop will put our economy in reverse.”
