Americans for Prosperity Comments on House Opposition to Replenishing Rainy Day Fund

May 29, 2014

CONCORD – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) offered the following statement in response to the House opposition to adding $15 million to the state’s Revenue Stabilization Fund, commonly called the Rainy Day Fund.

“The failure of the House to support enhancing the state’s financial position by shoring up the Rainy Day Fund shows a lack of seriousness in the notion of fiscal responsibility,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director.  “With a meager $9 million in the fund, the state has no margin for error in the case of dropping revenues, and will force the state to make decisions that would undermine our economy, like raising taxes, because they are committed to continuing to grow government spending.  If House leadership continues down this reckless path of asking to spend our reserves, they should tell us now which taxes they will move to hike if revenues remain lagging.”
