MANCHESTER – As news of a spending and debt limit deal emerge in the Senate, Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) released the following comments regarding the proposed plan.
“AFP has insisted that any budget must conform to the Budget Control Act in order to bring fiscal sanity back to Washington,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “We’ve also been clear that any increase in the debt ceiling should be tied to dollar-for-dollar spending cuts to get our long-term spending under control. The proposed Senate deal doesn’t do either of these common sense, fiscally responsible steps to get our spending back on a sustainable path. Instead, it continues the Washington tradition of out-of-control spending and allows even more borrowing without any additional reductions in wasteful spending, as our nation goes further into debt.”
Nationally, AFP activists have been engaged in a years-long fight to curb wasteful spending. In the past several days alone, tens of thousands of activists across the country have contacted their lawmakers to tell them to stop the overspending.
“Our activists have made clear that getting our nation’s long-term financial future in place is absolutely critical and they’re prepared to ramp up the pressure as we move into this fight,” added Moore. “They know that politicians in Washington have dropped the ball and that it’s time to fix our broken spending priorities and ensure that the same Americans Dream that we had is still available to future generations.”
