MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today called on Rep. Carol Shea-Porter to offer sequester solutions that don’t raise taxes on New Hampshire families and employers.
“Our nation has $16.7 trillion in debt and is running a $900 billion deficit this year,” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “We need to take significant steps to bring our budget into balance and not pass this outrageous burden onto future generations.”
At a press conference in Portsmouth, Rep. Shea-Porter is expected to denounce the automatic spending cuts included in the sequester, approved in the 2011 budget deal. However, Shea-Porter has consistently advocated for replacing the sequester with a package that includes higher taxes.
“With 43,000 New Hampshire residents out of work and our citizens still struggling with the massive tax increase that hit their paychecks in January, the last thing we need is another round of job-killing tax hikes,” added Moore. “If Rep. Shea-Porter wants to complain about the spending reductions in the sequester, it’s time she moved away from the idea of new taxes that will send our economy into reverse. New Hampshire needs jobs, not new taxes on our families and employers.”
