MANCHESTER – Americans for Prosperity – New Hampshire (AFP-NH) today blasted the Hassan Administration for its decision to delay the release the release of the rate increases in the ObamaCare exchange until January 2015, according to an analysis by the Washington newspaper The Hill, meaning that New Hampshire will be the only state in nation that will put forward the rate information next year. Every other New England state will release this premium data by this August and West Virginia, the only other state with only a single insurer in the exchange, will release its rate information in September, according to the research.
“When no other state in the nation is waiting until 2015 to release the ObamaCare rate hike information, it’s clear that Governor Hassan’s administration is either trying to protect supporters of this highly unpopular law from the political consequences from the many people who have been hurt by it, or demonstrating extraordinary incompetence” said Greg Moore, AFP-NH State Director. “When every other state in New England can get this done before Labor Day and the only other state that has a monopoly in its ObamaCare exchange can release this by September, there’s no excuse for not getting this information out sooner so that New Hampshire citizens have time to plan for their premiums, unless the Hassan administration already knows that there will be a huge rate spike and they need political cover.”
The story in The Hill states, “Generally speaking, states with fewer carriers on the exchanges…are more likely to see higher premium increases.” New Hampshire only has one insurance carrier in the ObamaCare exchange (Anthem) and expects two more insurers to enter in 2015.
“My advice to anyone who is forced to buy insurance through the ObamaCare exchange is this: hold onto your wallet, because this is going to be big,” added Moore. “It’s bad enough that these poor folks have to deal with a Swiss cheese provider network and have no choice this year, and now they are going to get slammed with a major rate hike. It’s a shame that Governor Hassan’s staff doesn’t have the courage to tell people about the hit they are going to take before November.”
