Don't Let President Obama Flip-Flop on Keystone XL
“Now, right now, a company called TransCanada has applied to build a new pipeline to speed more oil from Cushing to state-of-the-art refineries down on the Gulf Coast. And today, I’m directing my administration to cut through the red tape, break through the bureaucratic hurdles, and make this project a priority, to go ahead and get it done.”
That was President Obama at a campaign rally in Cushing, OK just last year arguing for reducing the red tape and prioritizing construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

Now that Governor Heineman has approved the route for Keystone XL in Nebraska, the project moves back to the Obama Administration to await a presidential permit.
Nebraska has undergone a thorough review process to determine the best route for Keystone XL. Numerous federal agencies have reviewed the project, and the state Department of Environmental Quality issued an over 2,000 page report detailing how the project is safe and poses a limited environmental threat. And thousands of Nebraskans have provided their input, which has been incorporated in the final route the governor ultimately approved.
Keystone XL is safe and has a route through Nebraska that mitigates previous environmental concerns and is supported by the majority of Cornhuskers.
Now the project moves to the Obama Administration to await a federal permit. We believe the President will approve the permit, as he has already said TransCanada’s new pipeline will promote energy security.
Yet, without the northern portion of Keystone XL, which includes Nebraska, no oil will flow through the pipe the President used as a photo-op just a few months ago.
To remain consistent and remain faithful to his campaign pledge of supporting new jobs and new sources of energy, we encourage President Obama to quickly approve the Keystone XL pipeline.
